NSW Pride name final squads for the upcoming 2024 Hockey One League season
Published Wed 11 Sep 2024
With just over a month to go until the start of the much-anticipated 2024 Hockey One League, NSW Pride are pleased to announce our Men and Women’s squads for the 2024 season.
Both squads comprise of a mixture of youth and experience setting the teams up to have both on field success and an invaluable opportunity to support our talented junior Hockey players in NSW to enhance their Hockey careers.
Following the recent Paris Olympics, we are fortunate to have 10 Olympians named in our squads this season to bring their recent wealth of international experience to our Hockey One matches.
Hockey Great Britain star Hannah French is one of these returning Olympians who was recently announced as a squad member for the Women’s team. Hannah has 150 caps for her country and is an exciting inclusion to our Women’s squad this year.
Scott Barker continues as the Head Coach for Pride’s Women’s squad, following his successful debut as coach last year, while the Men’s team welcome two new coaches in ex - Hockey NSW and Australian player Kieran Govers alongside the highly regarded Hockey and current NSWIS Men’s Head Coach Roel van Maastrigt.
Roel van Maastrigt is looking forward to the season ahead, “I am honoured to be the coach of a franchise with such a legacy and am looking forward to coaching this group this season. Our team this season is a blend of returning players along with fresh talent. We are also fortunate to have some of our proud NSW born Kookaburras returning to our squad this year, which will only strengthen our team. It’s never easy picking a squad, but we have great quality in the group, and I’m eager to see how they perform."
Returning Head Coach for our Women’s squad Scott Barker is thrilled to be back on board in 2024 and working with the team in preparation for another hotly contested season ahead.
Barker said, “I am excited about the upcoming 2024 Pride campaign. We have assembled a strong squad of 25 players, with a vision to implement a specific way of play. Together, we have learned a lot from last year's competition, and I believe we have a well-balanced squad that can make an impact this season. I have been highly impressed by the high standards the players are bringing to the training environment; the group is coming together nicely ahead of round one.
We have several homegrown players from Newcastle, Macarthur, and Goulburn who are excited to play in front of their home fans this season. Who are looking forward to meeting the Hockey fans at these matches!”
This season NSW Pride are proud to be taking our home matches to 3 new Hockey One venues in Newcastle International Hockey Centre, Macarthur Regional Hockey Complex and Goulburn Hockey Complex, to showcase NSW Hockey across the state.
It is an exciting opportunity for Hockey fans across the state to get behind both teams this season and come and watch entertaining and high-quality Hockey in both metro and regional NSW.
Hockey NSW newly appointed CEO Matthew Bulkeley said “I cannot wait for my first Hockey One league season in my new role as Hockey NSW CEO. It is impressive to see all the hard work that has been and will continue to go on in the behind the scenes to ensure success both on and off the field this season. I am looking forward to hosting our three home matches across the state and would like to take this opportunity to thank the local clubs and associations for their continued support in planning these fixtures.
This is a great opportunity for our sport in our state to get behind your team and with the way ticket sales are going so far, looking forward to giving that Hockey One League crowd record a run for its money this year.”
