NSW Athletes Dominate Future Talent Squads
Published Fri 30 Apr 2021
Fifteen NSW athletes have been selected in Hockey Australia's 2021-2022 Future Talent squads.
The Future Talent Squads were selected based on performance at the recent Under 18 National Championships in Launceston, where our Under 18 Boys State team took home a gold medal.
Selection into the Future Talent Squad opens up significant doors and opportunities for players as they are seen as prospective Hockeyroos or Kookaburras for the 2024 Olympics but more predominantly the ensuing Commonwealth Games and Olympics including the 2032 Games that could be held in Brisbane.
Hockey NSW Pathway Manager Richard Willis congratulates every athlete that was selected and looks forward to supporting them on the next phase of their elite hockey journey.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for our NSW athletes to be a part of a focussed, pre-elite development program over the next 12 months. It's a great reward for strong individual and team performances in Launceston at the Under 18 Nationals," said Willis.
"Many of our current Hockeyroos and Kookaburras have been selected in this squad previously and are now representing Australia on the international stage. These athletes are now one step closer to potentially becoming part of the National Squad that will head to the 2024 Paris or 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games."
The rewards for the athletes selected include:
- The opportunity to be mentored by current Hockeyroos and Kookaburras
- Taking part in a series of online education sessions
- Having access to more specialised and targeted training and development through their institutes, academies or development programs
- Participating in a five-day training camp in either late September this year or January 2022.
