The 2025 edition of the Hockey Australia Men’s Masters Championships, Australian hockey’s largest participation event, will be hosted at the Newcastle International Hockey Centre, home of the Newcastle Hockey Association.
Proudly supported by City of Newcastle, this marks the return of the Men’s Masters to Newcastle for the first time since 1996.
Newcastle’s world-class facilities, featuring three upgraded synthetic fields and ample viewing, clubhouse, and change room areas, promise an exceptional experience for players and spectators alike.
Masters players, ranging from ages 34 to 80+, are set to converge on Newcastle during the traditional September school holidays. This highly anticipated event is expected to see a return to record-breaking participation, with over 90 teams from across Australia.
In the 2023 Championships in Perth, 92 teams across 15 competitions competed, showcasing the event’s ever-growing popularity.
“The Australian Men’s Masters Championships is a huge event on Hockey Australia’s calendar and every year it continues to break attendance records as the competition goes from strength to strength,” Hockey Australia CEO David Pryles said.
“We thank the City of Newcastle and Hockey NSW for their support, and also the Hockey Australia Masters Committee for their collaboration through this process of confirming a location.”
“Newcastle has a strong record of hosting fantastic successful events and I encourage everyone to enjoy the region in and around the two weeks of action.”
Spanning 16 days of competitive action, the Championships will attract over 2,000 visitors to the Newcastle region. Players and their families can enjoy Newcastle’s unique beach-to-bush environment, complemented by mild spring weather—perfect for both competitive hockey and leisurely rest-day activities.
