Manning Valley Hockey Association Wraps Up Successful School Hockey Program with Gala Day

On Friday, August 9, Manning Valley Hockey Association welcomed Year 5 and 6 students from Forster Public School for the culmination of their School Hockey Program. This event marked the end of a successful 4-week initiative made possible through funding from the Sporting Schools Grant. 

The Sporting Schools Grant, designed to support primary schools and offers targeted opportunities for secondary schools as well, aims to foster a lifelong love for sports by enabling schools to implement comprehensive sport-based programs.

For Forster Public School, the grant helped facilitate a structured program introducing students to the fundamentals of hockey. This final session, a School Gala Day, showed the program’s success in providing children with a chance to experience and engage with the sport. Approximately 130 students and 6 teachers participated in the activities organised for the day.

Central to the day’s success were the 14 dedicated volunteers from Manning Valley Hockey Association. These volunteers generously contributed their time and expertise to run various skill stations and games, ensuring that the kids had an enjoyable experience.

Hockey NSW would like to thank the volunteers for their support. Their commitment and enthusiasm played a crucial role in make the School Gala Day a memorable one for all involved.

Looking ahead, Term 4 grants under the Sporting Schools program are currently open for applications until Friday, August 23rd at 5pm. Schools are encouraged to apply for funding and continue enriching their students educational experience through sports. Though the School Hockey program, Forster Public School were able to foster potentially a new generation of hockey athletes whilst promoting the benefits of physical activity in education.
