Katrina Mulcahy Talks Kindness On National Day Against Bullying & Violence

Published Fri 18 Mar 2022

Hockey NSW is proud to support the National Day Against Bullying and Violence (March 18) and this year's theme of "Kindness Culture - It Starts With You".

Leading the way with the strong messaging of “just be kind” is Hockey NSW Athlete & Coach Wellbeing Manager Katrina Mulcahy.

Katrina joined the Hockey NSW team in October 2021, and has been providing supportive resources and education sessions for all the staff, players, coaches and parents involved in the state team programs on the importance of a positive culture and athlete & coach wellbeing.

“It is everyone’s responsibility to change poor behaviour and contribute towards the positive hockey experience,” says Katrina.

Above: Katrina has been working with our NSW athletes at training camps and trials during 2022.

“People need to be accountable on how they act, influence and impact others. Simple reminders how to be kind to themselves and to others. For example, parents bombarding a coach straight after the game to complain or small group of players walking past a team mate to go for lunch and not be inclusive is just not okay.”

Katrina is working closely with our State Team coaches getting ready for the Under 15 and Under 18 Nationals in April this year.

“There is a positive vibe within the teams. With everything going on in our world at the moment, it is wonderful to see the athletes enjoying their training camps."

"The coaches are putting a lot of considered activities and planning around building a positive team culture. It is really exciting to see how this positive approach will create high performance on the pitch at Nationals.”

As part of her work as our Athlete & Coach Well-Being Manager, Katrina is currently assisting with the Pathway Review being undertaken by Clare Prideaux. Her focus is on the holistic athlete model, people-first approach, and embedding an environment that enhances athlete and coach wellbeing.

Katrina also played a part in developing the newly launched PRIDE Values for the athletes, coaches and support staff on our Pathway. These PRIDE Values are Professional, Resiliant, Intergrity, Diversity & Excellence and form part of the positive culture we want our community to embrace and display.
