Hockey NSW Flood Support Info
Published Mon 07 Mar 2022
Hockey NSW has been contacted by a number of our members enquiring how they can support people in the hockey community who have been affected by the recent floods throughout NSW.
Where possible, we encourage our community to support flood victims through exsisting registered charities, and ethical support networks such as the Red Cross Australia, St Vincent de Paul, Salvation Army, FoodBank or RuralAid. These are the best options to make an immeadiate monetary contribution, as any donations over $2 are tax-deductible. These organisations are also currently on the ground supporting victims and communities.
Other options for providing non-monetary support are below:
- GIVIT which gives you the option of funding flood victim requests, or donating requested items directly - https://www.givit.org.au/storms-and-flooding
- Crisis Heroes connects those in need to people able to provide physical help with tasks such as heavy lifting, mould removal, and transport - https://www.crisisheroes.com/
- Seek Volunteer keeps an updated list of organisations in need of physical volunteers - https://www.volunteer.com.au/supporting-the-nsw-and-qld-floods
Hockey NSW will be working directly with local Clubs and Associations over the coming weeks to assess and provide support where required for fields or venues have been damaged by storms or floods. Hockey NSW has undetaken a similar process in the past for those affected by bushfires and other natural disasters.
We also encourage any members who have been directly impacted by the floods to reach out to our office if they are suffering hardship or adversity, and our staff will provide assistance where possible.
Should there be a direct call-out for a specfic cause or hockey-related donation drive, this will be shared across our official channels. These are more likely to come at a later point once there has been an opportunity to assess damages and understand what assistance or support is required. Keep an eye on our channels and website for more details.
