Hockey NSW 2024 Community Awards: Celebrating Our Local Champions

Hockey NSW is proud to announce the return of the 2024 Community Awards, a celebration of the dedicated individuals and events that form the backbone of our sport across the state. These awards are designed to recognise and honor the tireless contributions of volunteers, administrators, officials, coaches, and clubs who elevate their local hockey communities through passion and commitment.

The winners of these awards will also represent Hockey NSW as nominees for the Sport NSW Community Sports Awards in 2025, showcasing the talent and dedication within our hockey community to the wider sporting world.

Call for Nominations

Hockey NSW is calling on all Associations and Clubs to nominate individuals and events that have made a difference in the following categories:

  • Community Administrator of the Year
  • Community Volunteer of the Year
  • Community Official of the Year
  • Community Young Official of the Year (U18)
  • Community Coach of the Year
  • Community Young Coach of the Year (U18)
  • Community Event of the Year
  • Community Club of the Year
  • Community Media & Communications of the Year
  • Community Inclusion Award
  • Community Distinguished Long Service Award (25+ years)

Nominations must be endorsed by a Club or Association Executive, ensuring that submissions highlight the impact of these individuals and events on their communities. The deadline for nominations is 5:00 pm, Wednesday 18 December 2024. For detailed award criteria and to submit nominations, visit the Hockey NSW website

Spotlight on 2023 Winners

Last year’s awards brought stories of inspiration and dedication, with recipients ranging from grassroots volunteers to community leaders. Notable examples included:

  • James and Heidi Wright, the father-daughter duo from Kiama Hockey Club, who won Community Coach of the Year and Community Young Coach of the Year, embodying the family spirit of hockey.
  • Grafton Hockey Association, which hosted the "Doin it for Holly" event, raising $3,500 and spreading awareness about blood donation.
  • Clinton Mallett, from Far North Coast Hockey Association, who was honored for over 61 years of service with the Community Distinguished Long Service Award.
