Published Tue 01 Oct 2024

Hockey’s hotly contested FIH Pro League is returning to Australia for the first time in two years, with a blockbuster five-day leg set for February 4-9, 2025 at Sydney Olympic Park.

The Sydney stage was proudly revealed by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) today, as the full 2024/2025 FIH Pro League schedule was unveiled, mapping out the next season for our men’s and women’s national teams, the Kookaburras and Hockeyroos.

Highlights include:

  • FIH Pro League returns to Australia with a world-class lineup set to compete at Sydney Olympic Park, including both our World No. 5 Hockeyroos and World No. 6 ranked defending champions Kookaburras.
  • FIH Pro League season five champions the Kookaburras open their title defence in front of a home crowd.
  • A re-match between the Kookaburras and Olympic gold medallists Netherlands – the first since their Paris Olympic quarterfinal
  • A re-match between the Hockeyroos and Olympic silver medallists China – the first since their Paris Olympic quarterfinal
  • Prime time summer evening viewing in Sydney with matches at 5.30pm and 7.30pm AEDT.

Proudly supported by the NSW Government’s tourism and major events agency Destination NSW, the action-packed Sydney stage will see the Olympic Gold Medallists, Netherlands men and women, and Paris silver medallists, China women descend on the NSW capital to take on our Kookaburras and Hockeyroos, as well as Spain.

Proudly supported by the NSW Government’s tourism and major events agency Destination NSW, the action-packed Sydney stage will see the Paris Olympic Gold medallists, Netherlands men, silver medallists, China women, and Spain's men's and women's teams descend on the NSW capital to take on our Kookaburras and Hockeyroos.

The Kookaburras will be out to defend their title after winning Season 5, after they topped the men’s FIH Pro League with an incredible 10 wins from 16 matches against the world’s best. The world number five Hockeyroos start their season having jumped up the rankings ahead of their Sydney opponents, China and Spain.

“We’re delighted to kick off 2025 in Sydney and welcome the FIH Pro League back on Australian shores for the first time in two years,” Hockey Australia CEO David Pryles said.

“It doesn’t get much better than prime-time summer evening viewing in February. This event bridges the gap in Sydney’s sporting calendar, and I encourage everyone to get down to Sydney Olympic Park and enjoy some of the best teams in the world battle it out.

“This is the start of the next era for our national teams as we look ahead to the 2026 World Cup and the LA 2028 Olympic Games and I’m excited to see the start of the journey.”

Just a week after competing in Sydney, the Hockeyroos and Kookaburras head to Argentina for feisty doubleheaders against the South American hosts and Belgium.

In June, both teams embark on a tour of Europe with the Kookaburras starting in England with matches against Great Britain, before they take on India and returning opponents New Zealand in Belgium, just a week before they make a play for the title in Berlin against Germany.

The Hockeyroos’ Europe Tour gets off to a hot start with an enthralling doubleheader against the Olympic champions at home in the Netherlands. Then they head to England to take on India and Great Britain before rounding out the season against Germany in Berlin.

All Hockeyroos and Kookaburras matches will be broadcast LIVE and free on 7plus. All FIH Pro League matches not featuring the Kookaburras & Hockeyroos will be shown on livehockey.com.au
