Change of date for 2024 New Balance Regional Challenge
Published Mon 16 Oct 2023
The annual Hockey NSW New Balance Regional Challenge carnival held in February/March each year is one of the most highly anticipated events on the Hockey NSW calendar and attracts some 1000 participants from across the state who have participated in the New Balance Centre of Development Program.
In 2024 the New Balance Regional Challenge will be held in Newcastle at the Newcastle International Hockey Centre. The dates for the 2024 event were initially set for the weekend on March 1st, 2nd and 3rd however following discussions with the Newcastle Regional Council we have been advised that a major sporting event is scheduled to be held in Newcastle on the same dates.
With this event coming to Newcastle, it will place enormous strain on accommodation venues which will result in inflated costs and limited availability; already most hotels in the region have been booked.
Therefore, to ensure our participants, parents, families, friends, and officials can secure accommodation and make appropriate travel arrangements the New Balance Regional Challenge will now be held in Newcastle on the weekend of Friday 8th - Sunday 10th March 2024. Hockey NSW apologises for any inconvenience this change may cause however we believe this to be the best course of action to ensure an enjoyable weekend for our hockey community.
Hockey NSW Chief Executive Officer, Emma Highwood said, “The New Balance Regional Challenge attracts some 3000 members of the hockey community including participants and families to Newcastle and we want to ensure everyone is able to access accommodation and other attractions of the region. By shifting our dates, we will not clash with the thousands of tourists who will be in Newcastle for the major event scheduled that weekend.”
The New Balance Centre of Development program culminates with the New Balance Regional Challenge carnival and registrations for COD are still open in your region. You can register here via the link below:
