Olympic Gold Medallist, HP Coach and Hall of Fame - Brent Livermore, joins Hockey NSW as Director of Hockey and Performance

Hockey NSW is pleased to announce the appointment of Brent Livermore – Olympic Gold Medallist of the Australian Men's National Field Hockey team, the Kookaburras, as the Director of Hockey and Performance at Hockey NSW. 

Livermore joins the organisation with a wealth of knowledge and experience both on and off the hockey field. Livermore's achievements as a professional athlete is nothing short of incredible. He has represented Australia in all the Senior Tournaments; walking away as an Olympic Gold Medallist, triple Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist and Dual World Cup Silver Medallist with 10 Champions Trophies from over 13 years as an athlete. During the 2001 season, Livermore was named Australian International Player of the Year and played his 100th International Game against Belgium in Antwerp. This developed into 300 International Games in 2009 whilst on Tour in England.

Livermore's passion has transferred to passing on his knowledge and experiences to future stars and budding athletes and participants of hockey. Today, Livermore is a High Performance Coach around Australia and for the last two years he was Head Coach of the NSW Pride Men's team, leading the team to back-to-back Premiership victories. Since 2014, Livermore was also the High Performance Coach at NSWIS and has spent many years leading high profile sporting teams and athletes to achieve success in their careers. 

As the new Director of Hockey and Performance at Hockey NSW, Livermore's core purpose is to take ownership of the direction and development of players, coaches, and coaching programs. In doing so he will create a sustainable system that that is connected and supports the development of talented players and coaches, at every level within the pathway.

"I’m really excited and passionate about this opportunity as the new Director of Hockey and Performance at Hockey NSW. I’m looking forward to re-growing the game and reconnecting with the community to help improve the overall performance with all people involved in hockey.

It's important that we connect with all of NSW, the regions and associations – connecting back to the local roots and looking at messages to inspire people, the growth of the game and all the people involved. It’s about the inspiration and motivation behind hockey, as well as having a holistic strategy to listen to each of the challenges from the regions so we can better understand the actions that need to take place in order to support them", said Livermore.

Key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Responsible for the Pathway pillar in the strategy
  • Develop Clear Pathway for HNSW based on the Talent Pathway to 2032 vision
  • Redevelop Strategy for Talent Programs. – AAP, Pride Age Groups
  • Develop curriculum for all programs from Grassroots to High Performance- COD, AAP, Hockey 5’s and any new programs
  • Development of Coaches – From Grassroots to High Performance. Develop a 12 months Coach Development plan

Hockey NSW CEO, Emma Highwood, said she's excited to bring Brent Livermore into the Hockey NSW team as the new Director of Hockey and Performance.

"I'm excited to bring Brent Livermore into the Hockey NSW team as the new Director of Hockey and Performance. Brent is no stranger to the hockey community in NSW and I think he will bring a lot of experience, knowledge and passion to assist hockey in its next evolution. I'm excited to work with Brent on new projects to help achieve our vision within the strategic plan for the next three years", said Highwood.

Following the announcement of the Hockey NSW Strategic Plan for 2023-2026, Brent will be playing a key role to help achieve these pillars, to grow and strengthen the hockey community. 

"Through my experience, knowledge and connections, I’m a key part of the puzzle to implement the Hockey NSW Strategic Plan for 2023-2026. There’s a lot of growth and opportunities to improve what we do, so the implementation of this great strategy is really important. Now, it’s about rolling up the sleeves and getting to work", said Livermore.
