Officials are the fiber of any sport. With progams ranging from beginner levels to to high performance, officials are vital at all level of sport. In Hockey, officials include the following roles:

All official roles are fundamental in ensuring Hockey is a fun and thrilling game for everyone, as well as allowing developing players an opportunity to improve their talents.

Below is an overview of the new Hockey Australia Coaching and Officiating Framework.
Foundation Support Umpire
The Foundation Support Umpire is the first accreditation in the umpiring framework and is aimed at providing prospective umpires with an introduction to the games fundamental rules.
This FREE accreditation is completed entirely online and can be done in the comfort of your own home. It will take approximately 2 hours to complete, and you receive your certificate at the end.

Foundation Lead Umpire
The Foundation Lead Umpire is the second accreditation in the umpiring framework and is targeted at supporting umpires who want to create positive environments for participants and take the lead on the field.
This accreditation is completed in two parts. The first is an online course that can be completed at any time. Then the second is your assessment, which can be undertaken whilst umpiring any level of full-field or Hockey 5's game.

Please note, the Foundation Lead Umpire Accreditation is valid for 3 years from the date of completion.
Foundation Support Judge
The Foundation Support Judge is the first accreditation in the Technical Officiating (TO) framework and is aimed at providing perspective TOs with an introduction to the fundamentals of the role of the Judge.
This FREE accreditation is completed entirely online and can be done in the comfort of your own home. It will take approximately 90 minutes to complete, and you receive your certificate at the end!

Hockey NSW
We host a large number of competitions throughout the state each year that require competent officials to oversee matches. Check in regularly on the Hockey NSW website and social media channels for any calls for officials at upcoming events.
Clubs and Associations
Getting involved at a Club and Association level is a rewarding process and garners a great sense of fulfillment to those who choose to help out. Contact your nearest club or association by clicking the button below and find out how you can get involved.
Participants are able to renew their accreditation as a part of the learning process. Below outlines the accreditation window and corresponding renewal requirements:
- Year 1 - Accreditation complete
- Year 2 - Apply learning from accreditation
- Year 3 - Participants are required to renew before the expiry of their accreditation
- Year 4 - Participants can no longer renew their accreditation; they must re-sit the accreditation or apply for an RCC.

Accreditation Renewals will incur a cost of $50.00 AUD and can be purchased below
Hockey Australia recognises the prior learning of members of the community.
Prospective learners can apply for a Recognition of Current Competency (RCC) for Development Level Education and above. RCC cannot be requested for Foundation Level Education.
Learners will be required to submit a resume of relevant experience, supporting education certifications and references for their experience.

Requestees will also be required to make a payment of $50.00 AUD as a part of the process, payments can be made through the button below.
You can register to complete a program via HockeyEd at any time. However, there may be the need to undertake a practical assessment component which will need to be organised at an appropriate time and venue.
Hockey NSW runs several officiating courses throughout the year which fulfill the required practical assessment component. A table of upcoming courses can be found below.
