DIVERSITY & INCLUSION PROGRAMS

Hockey NSW is very proud of the multiple programs it runs throughout the year to support a diverse and inclusive hockey community. As part of our ongoing Hockey NSW Business Plan and a main pillar of our Participation Strategy, the diversity and inclusion space is an important priority for our organisation and staff.

Please click on our programs below for more information on the work we are doing in each space.

In addition, Hockey NSW an all-in-one program to assist coaches to adapt their delivery methods to best support participants of all abilities. This is available to download below.

If you'd like to know more or have any questions, please contact Manager Community Projects - Ms. Corrina Baldock (corrina.b@hockeynsw.com.au).

DAYS OF SIGNIFICANCE

17th May

IDAHOBIT

(International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia & Transphobia)

On May 17 we acknowledge IDAHOBIT as a day for our communities to go rainbow, and stand up against discrimination. Whether you’re part of the LGTBQIA+ community or you’re an ally – today we stand together.

But why May 17? This date commemorates the anniversary the World Health Organisation removed homosexuality from the International Classification of Diseases in 1990. Prior to this, homosexuality was classified globally as a mental illness.

INCLUSIVE COACHING PROGRAM

This inclusive hockey coaching program had been produced to assist coaches to adapt their delivery methods to best support participants of all abilities. Inclusive coaching should not be considered a separate coaching skill but a reflection of best practice.

Being inclusive means adapting and modifying coaching practices and activities to ensure that every participant – regardless of age, gender, ability level, disability or ethnic background – is included.
